Ingredients

Butter for greasing
6 slices firm bread (sourdough)
5 eggs
1 1/2 Cups low-fat milk
2 Teaspoons vanilla extract
1 Teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 Teaspoon nutmeg
4 Tablespoon sweet (unsalted) butter, at room temperature
1/3 Cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 Cup finely chopped walnuts
Maple syrup

Instructions

Generously grease a 12� x 7� x 2� baking dish. Lay the bread in the dish, cutting it to fit. Beat eggs, then beat in milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour over bread, making sure its submerged, cover and chill overnight. Combine 4 Tablespoons butter, brown sugar, and walnuts, and keep mixture at room temperature until ready to bake.
Preheat oven to 350F. With knife, spread nut mixture over bread. Bake 40 minutes or until puffed and golden. Let sit 10 minutes before cutting in squares. Serve with maple syrup.
