Ingredients
1 (1 lb) Package great northern beans
6 Cups water
1 Pound hot or sweet Italian sausages, sliced
1 Cup onion, chopped
1 Clove garlic, minced
1 (1 lb) Can Italian tomatoes
1 Bay leaf
2 Teaspoons minced Italian herbs, crumbled
2 Teaspoons salt
1/2 Teaspoon freshly ground pepper
Instructions
Pick over beans. Rinse. Cover beans with water in large kettle. Bring to boil. Cover. Cook 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Let stand 1 hour. Pour into crockpot (or cover beans with water in crockpot and soak overnight at room temperature). Brown sausages in large skillet. Push to one side. Saut� onion and garlic in same pan until soft. Stir in Italian tomatoes, bay leaf, mixed Italian herbs, salt and pepper. Bring to boiling. Stir into beans. Cover cooker. Cook on LOW for 10 hours or on HIGH for 5 hours or until beans are tender. Serve with salad if desired.
