Ingredients
1 1/2 Pounds extra lean ground beef
1 Pound mild Italian sausage, casings removed
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 Large onion, diced
1 Green bell pepper, diced
4 Garlic cloves, minced
1 Cup beef broth
1 (28 oz) Can crushed tomatoes
1/2 (4 oz) Can tomato paste
1 Jar marinara sauce
1 Teaspoon oregano
1 Teaspoon thyme
2 Bay leaves
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 Teaspoon sea salt
1/2 Teaspoon pepper, or to taste
2 Tablespoons dried parsley
1/2 Cup parmesan cheese
Instructions
In a large pot, over medium heat, cook beef and mild Italian sausage. When the meat is cooked, drain and set aside.
Heat the olive oil and add the onion and green pepper. Saut� until the onion is soft and then add the garlic. Give it a good stir and cook until fragrant.
Add the beef broth and reduce for about two minutes.
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, marinara sauce, oregano, thyme, sugar, bay leaves, pepper, and salt, let simmer a few minutes.
Add the meat and stir, cover and simmer on low � medium/low for at least an hour or longer.
When simmering is complete add the parmesan cheese and parsley. Stir and simmer for another thirty minutes.
Serve with desired pasta and top with more parmesan cheese.
